These were hosted on the last Vodafone/Wayfinder servers that stayed around for quite some time after the company was closed down, due to other commitments no one was available to bring them back up again. The documentation has been converted partly automatically and partly manually to markdown. The blog and documentation is hosted using github pages and generated using Jekyll. Downloads are partially hosted as github pages but some were moved to a git repo.

The rest of the docs and files will be coming online during the next few days.
Sample Javascript to display map tiles2011-01-25T19:05:59+00:002011-01-25T19:05:59+00:00http://wayfinder.org/2011/01/25/sample_javascript_to_display_map_tiles
Parts of the former Wayfinder web development team has extracted some
JavaScript code that might be interesting for the public. The code, together
with HTML and CSS, is available on github at
Wayfinder-JavaScriptMapClient and offers basic management
of the tiles that can be downloaded from the Wayfinder Server.

To test, simply download the code from github, and open the index.html file
with your browser. By default the code use Wayfinder Open Source server, with
the limited map coverage that is offered there, please insert your own set of
XML servers in config.js.

It is highly recommended to setup caching of the “Merkator tiles” in the
Wayfinder Server to use this.
FAQ2010-07-20T14:10:00+00:002010-07-20T14:10:00+00:00http://wayfinder.org/2010/07/20/faq
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers!

What license is the source code released under?

All the source code developed at Wayfinder is released under a BSD license, included in all the files.

Where can I download the source code?

The source code is hosted in several public repositories at github

Why is the code uploaded in so many different repositories?

The Java and C++ client source code projects are stored in separate
repositories to make is easier and more straight forward to use e.g. Eclipse
as IDE.

How can I contribute to improving the source code and the documentation?

Patches and improvements of both the code and documentation are
strongly encouraged, please send them to oss[at]wayfinder.com. Frequent
contributors will be granted write access to both the source code
repositories at GitHub.com and the documentation wiki.

Will more source code be released as Open Source?

Generally speaking, no. We are not able to release any other software as Open
Source. There are several different reasons, e.g. for the Maemo version of
the Navigator one reason is that none of the original developers were left at
the company and thus we have not been able to verify use of 3rd party license
software. There is however a small chance that some of the php/web related
source code developed at Wayfinder, also will be released as open source
depending on the availability of former team members.

Does Vodafone Wayfinder Open Source Software team guarantee that the open sourced technology does not infringe any Vodafone or third-party patents?

No, the licence text is the only document governing the use of the code. We
are not in a position where we can give any guarantees that any particular
use of the code does not infringe third party patents, or any other IPR.
However, we are not aware of any such infringements

Is there other open source software included in this project?

Yes, there is some other Open Source Software used in the Wayfinder products.
A thorough scan for 3rd party source code was conducted before it was
released under the BSD license in order to avoid including source code
released under a licence not compatible with BSD.

Where can I download Wayfinder clients to my phone?

This project is licensing the source code for many of the Vodafone Wayfinder
products as Open Source – client applications for Wayfinder customers are
not in the scope for this project.

Where can I find maps for country X?

Maps are not included in this open source project. However sample map data
from both Open Streetmap and Tele Atlas has been made available. Please see
the Downloads section.

Where is the Wayfinder on-board product (former Navicore)?

Unfortunately the source code for that product is not included in what is released as Open Source.
Vodafone news relase2010-07-15T11:00:00+00:002010-07-15T11:00:00+00:00http://wayfinder.org/2010/07/15/vodafone_news_release
The official communication from Vodafone about this open source initiative is out there.

VODAFONE DEMONSTRATES COMMITMENT TO OPEN SOURCE INNOVATION

Vodafone Group will make its location based services software open source on
http://wayfinder.org The code will be made available on github. The aim is to
offer other organisations the opportunity to use a code base which has been
developed over the past decade so that they can build new and innovative
navigation products which widen choice for consumers.

The complete text.

This means that we have enabled access for everyone to the source code hosted
at github.com. Please consume and contribute!
Welcome to Vodafone Wayfinder OSS2010-07-13T18:00:32+00:002010-07-13T18:00:32+00:00http://wayfinder.org/2010/07/13/welcome_to_vodafone_wayfinder_oss
This is the original blog post announcing the open source project, there is no
longer a forum or a test server available unfortunately

We are proud to announce the Vodafone Wayfinder Open Source Software project.
The majority of all the location and navigation related software developed at
Wayfinder Systems, a fully owned Vodafone subsidiary, is made available
publicly under a BSD licence. This includes the distributed back-end server,
tools to manage the server cluster and map conversion as well as client
software for e.g. Android, iPhone and Symbian S60. Technical documentation is
available in the wiki and discussions around the software are hosted in the
forum.

Some pre compiled map data from various sources will be made available here
shortly, including sample data for development by Tele Atlas.

For development purposes Vodafone Wayfinder host a small server cluster with
free map data from the Open Street Map database.
Unfortunately the Wayfinder Server is not developed to operate directly on this
dataset making routing very unreliable, however, you are more than welcome to
help out fixing those issues :-) . Please notice that this server instance is
intended for development and testing of the software, not for large scale
end-user services.

Background

The operations of Wayfinder Systems has been discontinued since March 11th
2010, see media
release,
and after that Vodafone decided to contribute the software to the open source
community. Please also visit www.betavine.net,
